Governance

Notre Dame Regional Secondary

is established in accordance with the Provisional Guidelines for the structure of school administration within

the Catholic Independent Schools of Vancouver Archdiocese.

A local Education Committee, made up of two elected representatives from each of the ten participating parishes, and three pastors, elected by the pastors of those participating parishes, manages the school.

One of these pastors is appointed as the Archbishop's Representative for the school.

The local Education Committee is responsible for the school, delegating the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the school to the Principal.

Formal inquiries concerning school governance should be directed to ndec.chair@ndrs.org

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! And an especially warm welcome to all our incoming Grade 8s and new families.

I am honoured to be serving in the role of Chairperson of the Notre Dame Regional Education Committee (REC). As an alumnus and parent, the role has afforded me the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new people.

The Education Committee has a broad portfolio and plays a vital role in the operations of the school. As members of an Education Committee, we share in the mission of Catholic education “to proclaim and build the kingdom of God.”

Often, I am asked, “Why is it called the REC and not PEC?” Where the Parish Education Committee (PEC) is comprised of members of a specific parish to support the operations of the elementary school, the REC is comprised of members from the parishes which feed into Notre Dame, thus creating a regional committee.

Ultimately, the function of both committees is the same in that members are called upon to serve in a leadership capacity to ensure the safe and orderly operation of the school with respect to hiring, finances, maintenance, parent participation, and fundraising.

Additionally, we work with the principal and pastors to deliver policy which fosters collaboration, Christian community, and promotes Catholic education.

Whether you have questions, suggestions, or concerns, the REC is here to listen and help where possible.

In closing, on behalf of the Notre Dame Regional Education Committee, I would like to wish everyone a blessed and successful school year!

God Bless,

Sonia Erichsen

Chairperson, NDREC
