The Notre Dame Jugglers Varsity football team scored a major upset on Friday afternoon at Town Centre in Coquitlam as they defeated the favoured Terry Fox Ravens 30-14 in a first round AAA playoff game.

The Ravens got on the board first as they recovered a Notre Dame fumble at midfield and eventually scored on a 30-yard pass play. A two-point conversion made it 8-0 Terry Fox.

The Ravens threatened again in the first quarter as they marched to the Juggler 10 yard line. A key Juggler interception by Ryan Torresan snuffed out the drive and gave Notre Dame life. QB Max Brougham then connected with Torresan on a 60-yard pass and run play to put the Jugglers on the board. The conversion pass to Eathen Knutson tied the score at 8.

Notre Dame quickly added to their lead after a long drive was capped by a short Zack White run to the endzone. Vito DeCotiis added the extra point and it was 15-8 Jugglers.

Just before the halftime break, defensive back Andrea Ferronato intercepted a Terry Fox pass and ran all the way to the Ravens 3 yard line. From there, Knutson scored on a short run and DeCotiis converted to put the Jugglers up 22-8.

The Ravens responded with a long drive for a touchdown to start the third quarter and the margin was cut to 22-14. Notre Dame then made a great fourth down play as Brougham hit Kyle Torresan on a 40-yard touchdown pass. White ran off tackle for the two point conversion and it was 30-14 Jugglers.

Notre Dame's defense, which exerted extreme pressure on the Raven quarterbacks all game long, then made some significant stops as they shut down the Terry Fox offense the rest of the way to secure the playoff victory for Notre Dame.

Coach Kelly:

This was truly a character win for our program. The team came together and played inspired football after two successive weeks of disappointments. Terry Fox is a quality football team, and we showed great resolve in overcoming some key injuries and other misfortunes during the past two weeks.

We now play a quarter final game versus Carson Graham, a team that defeated us on our field in a league contest several weeks ago. It promises to be a great test for our team, one that I am sure we are all looking forward to.

The game will be at Carson Graham with the date and time TBA.
