The annual football game for the Archbishop's Cup was played on Saturday at Vancouver College with the host team coming away victorious by a score of 28-10.
Notre Dame started the game with an early fumble recovery on the College 30-yard line. The drive stalled, but Kyle Torresan managed a 35-yard field goal to put the Jugglers ahead 3-0. The Irish got going later in the quarter with two touchdowns and added another in the second quarter to take a 21- 3 half time lead.
The Jugglers played inspired defense in the third quarter and broke through with a touchdown when linebacker Eathen Knutson returned an interception 56 yards for the major. Torresan's extra point made it 21-10 VC.
Notre Dame threatened again early in the fourth quarter when Knutson took an Andrea Ferronato pass to the Irish 15-yard line, but the drive fizzled at that point. College added a late touchdown pass, and the final score was 28-10.
At the post-game ceremony, Knutson was named the game's top back. He had a touchdown, nine tackles on defense, a 66-yard punt, a fake punt run of 20 yards and two pass receptions for 44 yards.
Notre Dame has qualified for the provincial playoffs and will play Terry Fox Secondary at 2:30 pm on Friday, November 11th at Town Centre in Coquitlam.
Yesterday, at the conference coaches meeting, six Jugglers were honoured by being named to the All-Conference team. They are
