Jan 18, 2023

Ms. D. Schaper-Kotter | NDRS

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Basketball team who defeated LFA to earn a Bronze Medal at the BC Catholics last weekend. Our very own Kaitlyn Chan was named a Second Team All-Star, and Emily Chan received honorable mention. In addition, Maecon Glifonea earned Player of the Game for two games. Come out and cheer on all the Girls’ teams today after school as the Grade 8 team will take on LFA at 3:30, the Junior team at 5pm and the Varsity girls will rival LFA once again at 6:30pm!

Congratulations to the Grade 9 Boys team who won their Juggler Classic tournament, going undefeated in all 3 games. The team won their first game against Tupper 56-32 and beat RE Mountain 54-49 in the semis to advance to the finals and beat Killarney in an exciting overtime game ending 40-35. Players of the Game for the tournament were Caleb Parrotta, Niko Kuna, and Klyde Tan. Tournament all-stars were Niko Kuna and Caleb Parrotta.

Best of the luck to the Grade 8 Boys Basketball team who compete in their Juggler Classic this Friday and Saturday here at ND. Make sure you come out and support the team. Their first game is on Friday afternoon at 3pm versus North Surrey.

Last Friday, the Wrestling team participated in their first Tournament of the season.  We had 11 Wrestlers competing, most of them being Grade 8s and 9s who learned a great deal at their first event. In addition to that, some of our more seasoned wrestlers came home with medals. Julian Jeram, Brandon Meira and Zack White all came home with a Gold medal, and Daniela Faganello came home with a Bronze medal. Good luck to the entire team as their compete in the North Shore Open this weekend.

And now, your first Athlete of the Week goes to a Grade 11 wrestler who had an outstanding performance at his first tournament of the wrestling season. He was dominant in all of his matches and went undefeated to earn his first Gold medal of the year. We are confident this won’t be his last medal of the season, and we hope he carries that momentum to the North Shore Open this weekend. Congratulations to Zack White!

Your second Athlete of the Week goes to a Grade 9 Basketball player who played a huge part in the Jugglers' tournament win last weekend. He was named a tournament all-star and hit the 3-point shot to tie the game and take the Jugglers into overtime for the finals. He also sealed the game in overtime by making both his free throw shots. Congratulations to Caleb Parrotta!
