The Notre Dame Varsity football team ran their non-conference record to 3-0 as they defeated South Kamloops 31-7 Saturday afternoon on Juggler Field.
Running back Eathen Knutson scored three touchdowns, wide receiver Ryan Torresan added another major, and kicker Vito DecCotiis added a field goal and four PAT's.
The Jugglers started fast, scoring on their first possession on the game. Key plays were the running of Zack White, a screen pass to DeCotiis, and finally the touchdown run of 15 yards by Knutson.
Notre Dame's vaunted defense then came up big, recovering a South Kamloops fumble at mid-field. Juggler QB Andreas Ferronato then threw a perfect 45-yard seam pass to Torresan for a touchdown.
DeCotiis added a second quarter 35-yard field goal and the half-time score was 17-0 Notre Dame.
Midway through the third quarter, the Jugglers took possession on their own 30-yard line. On the ensuing first down play, Knutson found an opening on the right side and sprinted down the sideline 70 yards for another touchdown, making it 24-0 Notre Dame.
After a long South Kamloops drive capped by a 10-yard run by their quarterback, Knutson ended the scoring as he intercepted a pass and ran 15 yards for the final major.
The Jugglers now enter league play with a cross-over match with Centennial this coming Thursday night, 6pm at the Coquitlam school.
Coach Kelly:
We still need to progress in several areas, but it was a good solid effort this afternoon; and the team is anxious to begin league play and test themselves against their rivals from Centennial. The Centaurs are well-coached by Notre Dame grad Dino Geremia and will give us all we can handle.
Hope to have a big ND contingent at Centennial on Thursday evening.
